The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) invites nominations for electricity market, regulatory and competition experts to participate in the Electricity Market Advisory Forum (EMAF).

Any individual nomination to the EMAF must be supported by at least three nomination forms from peers for each person nominated, the regulator says.

The forum will provide expert advice to Nersa on matters related to the electricity market and its regulation.

The amended Electricity Regulation Act, which came into effect on January 1, has the primary objective of enabling the transition to a competitive electricity market.

To support an orderly transition to such a competitive market, Nersa approved the establishment of an advisory forum to review the Market Code/Rule and make recommendations to help Nersa provide regulatory oversight and facilitate the transition to a competitive market.

The forum will also make recommendations to Nersa on the measures necessary to enable the surveillance, monitoring, investigation and enforcement related to the Market Operator licence, the Market Rule and Market Code.

Nomination forms are available on Nersa's website and on request from EMAFnominations@nersa.org.za.

Appointment to the EMAF is for a term of three years at the discretion of Nersa. Participation is voluntary and will not be remunerated.

All nominations will be subject to the appropriate level of accreditation. Any failure to pass the accreditation and possible State Security Agency clearance will disqualify the nomination, the regulator says.

Nominations would close on July 25.
